When I finished college, I was so sure that I would immediately have a job. I pictured that being a cum laude will ensure that companies will call my phone and race to hire me. But when I stepped on the real world, my life nearly fell apart. I totally trusted the promise of a good education that I even depended on it as a career provider. What I went through was totally the opposite of my expectation. No company has called me -- save for this one company that sends a letter to all fresh graduates. I expected that my ideal job would automatically come to me because of my education background. Apparently, I had the wrong perception about getting a job.
However, that kind of perception has been my drive to study hard and finish school with flying colors. As I started my painstaking job hunting, I realized that my award was really meant for my parents. It was my consolation to them for supporting me. I thought, at least, I made my parents happy and satisfied for having a son like me. Excuse my arrogant tone please.
My first personal jobhunt sucked. Even though I applied online, I had to walk and look for the building where the office was located and I had to do it everyday. It was such a money-wasting activity, and if I was unlucky enough I would get rejected during the interview. Every day I waited for a call from the companies I had applied to and I checked my e-mail everyday, too. That was how depressing my life was. My only refuge during that jobhunt was my totally cool iPod. Thanks to my mom's prayers I got a job after two months of jobhunting.

Tired, stressed, drained, exhausted -- these are the basic fatigue syndrome. People generally call all of these feelings fatigue. It is usually accompanied by impaired senses, lapse of judgment, slow motion, and less productivity. Fatigue is the most common problem of employees. It is a result of long hours of strenuous work and sleep deficiency. Fatigue is also the main cause of a moody temperament. It affects your work and your lifestyle.
Sunday, May 13. 2007
Though fatigue involves only you because it only affects your body and your mind, it needs other people to get rid of it. Both employees and employers play an important role in solving this problem. Why? Because if an employee has fatigue, work is affected and so is the company's product. Surrounding is among the top factors that cause fatigue. Needless to say, the amount of work in a day works against the constraints of time. Thus, you can only work out your fatigue if you ask help from your peers and your boss.
Saturday, May 12. 2007
If you can't get rid of fatigue, you can at least minimize it by managing your time. Correct time management is the best shield of an employee against stressful load of work. The workplace must be conducive and safe enough for all workers. These are two ways, you can add more ways that you think would help you reduce your fatigue. Or, I strongly suggest that you take a break from work, stroll along the park, or visit a beautiful green garden where you can relax and rejuvenate yourself.

You can only dress like a pro if you know how to be a pro. Being a pro needs attitude and discipline. You can also be a pro even in the simplest way of being elegant and clean. You can only be clean if you know how to organize your things as well as manage your time. Because time is important in planning your day's outfit. You can also be a pro if you practice courtesy. Being courteous in terms of dressing means you know what cloth gets respect or indecent comments. Dress like a pro if you want the former.

There are many people who love to wear formal clothes even in an ordinary day. Well, even though you are not a boss you can also dress formally. It's your individual choice to wear your fashion statement everyday. But, there are also limits to that. If you're going to a Hawaii-inspired party at your office, don't go formal or too casual. Sometimes you have to join the crowd, bro. Formals dressing is also required in job interviews. During these types of event, it is a MUST that you dress formally because first impressions last.

I have a friend who has never worn a formal dress before. That's because he's a reggae type of guy with that Bob Marley look. One day, our group decided to change his over-all look because it was our graduation day in high school. We needed to cut his hair but he didn't want it. So, we just focused on his wear and his shoes. We borrowed his dad's coat and tie and shoes. We didn't want to let the moment past without taking pictures of his new look so we got my dad's techy Canon cam. He was kinda happy about the result as well as his parents.

Many people from across Asia and even US migrate to Israel because of school or employment reasons. Some have decided to build their lives there and some wanted to explore the Israeli land. But, the current tumult is the area has brought dangers to the people. Recently, an Irish officer told Israel that four U.N. staffs were killed when Israel bombed southern Lebanon. Israel said that it was only an accident. But, UN officers said that Israel must ensure that it wasn't really a deliberate target or else they would be forced to follow drastic measures.

Israel's employment rate was increasing last year. How about this year? In January, it was still in the middle line and was keeping its pace. However, recent events and its current situation apparently tells us that the employment rate of Israel is struggling to stay at the top line. As an example, Philippines has brought their Filipino OFW's, who were working in Israel and Lebanon, back to the country because the danger was upsurging. Who would want to work in a place that promises safety but is involved in a war?
Sunday, May 6. 2007
I'd rather stay in New Delhi (even though the smell of the Indian people is outrageous) than stay in a chaotic place like Lebanon and Israel. Add there Syria and Iraq. I can't really understand the philosophy of these people. Unlike the Nazi people who tried to exterminate the Jews, their philosophy of extermination was very clear. I don't claim that they were right because I hate Nazi, too. But, at least they have a strong philosophy that gave "them" a reason for doing their action.

Nope, it's not yet Christmastime! But, it is time to make that list of work experiences, educational history, and extracurricular activities. These three are the basic content of resumes. Making a list of those special achievements in school and in the community is essential for you to be able to organize your resume well. List down all achievements and weigh them correctly like which is more relevant to that job you're seeking and which is not. Making a list simply adds organization to your life.
Friday, May 4. 2007
All work, academic, and extracurricular history should be listed in reverse chronology. Write the most important and most relevant matter first down to the least. Take note also of the latest history and put it first on your list. Short paragraphs and straightforward sentences only. No long and tiring sentences if you seek attention. Lastly, list only worthy experiences under creative and catchy headings.
Thursday, May 3. 2007
Make your resume attractive and interesting by putting power words or words that really catch reader's attention. Don't exaggerate what I'm saying here. You can't include curses on resumes just to get attention (keep it to yourself). Make your paragraphs conversational yet formal. Yes, you can combine these two different matters. This way employers will know that you are a respected person who is worthy to have that job. So, instead of vegging out and playing those fighting games on your PS2, why don't you start organizing yourself?
Wednesday, May 2. 2007
I know you already know that looks matter because as long I'm concerned it's a trite topic. But, it's just a matter that people, until today, tend to neglect. If you want, you could prove me wrong . Having a job is quite difficult, most especially for fresh (fresh as in oozing, sizzling) graduates, that's why you should be aware of the things that truly matter when looking for the right job. And first on the list is how you look.
Tuesday, May 1. 2007
Alright, you know what to wear for a job interview. How about when you're already working? I'm sure there are a lot of hassles in choosing the right outfit everyday. One is the fear of repeating the same outfit that your officemates start to notice. The solution is to mix and match. You can repeatedly wear the same clothes without those possible rumors about your worn-out outfit by learning how to mix certain clothes that match. Take note of the color combination so that you'll look gorgeous.
Monday, April 30. 2007
Express yourself when choosing what to wear. Express your creativity and resourcefulness. If you need a belt (for women and gaypals), use a large hanky. You can even use your mama's silk table cloth and tie it around your waist to look sexy and dazzling in the eyes of men. Remember that you're not limited to anything save for the weather. Of course, you must base your outfit on the current weather. Or, simply wear your natural self.

No matter how dedicated and responsible you are, a gap can occur in your career. A gap is when you find yourself out of a job for a long period of time. This situation happens to every single employee in the world. But the thing is, not everyone are able to patch that gap, therefore, they become unemployed for another month or two. There are actually simple and effective measures that we can follow to bridge that gap.
Saturday, April 28. 2007
Being unemployed doesn't mean you have to stay out of your expertise. If you were a former writer, teacher, open software developer, or graphic artist; find a freelance assignment or a consulting project. You can share your expertise to other people by joining organizations in your neighborhood. Be a volunteer worker in charities, the Red Cross, the fire brigade or any other group that needs your help. Who knows, you might find your next destination among these groups.
Friday, April 27. 2007
If you've spent your time off doing freelance tutorial or volunteer job that relates to your career, you can put these in your cover letter or resume in the job experience section. You can include your achievements, citations, or any awards that you received in those organizations. It would be better if you explain the reason or the cause of the long career gap in a cover letter. But make sure that you'll tell employers the truth because they will know the concept of a downright lie.

A resume is a SUMMARY of your personality, job experience, and achievements. So if you’re writing your resume, remember to make it brief but complete. Stop putting unnecessary awards and recognitions on it. Employers won’t give a damn even if you’re the homecoming queen or the recipient of the Boy Scout of the year award. Employers don't want an epic or a novel about your previous employment. They want to know if you’re qualified for the job.
Wednesday, April 25. 2007
Contribute, assist and support are what employers consider as vague words. Use the words wisely by adding a short descriptive summary of your basic tasks and responsibilities. Let them know how you did your job and the results of your job. Using the words efficiently and successfully won’t exactly tell a recruitment officer that you are a responsible worker. Let your job experience speak for itself by giving brief examples of the tasks that you have successfully accomplished.
Tuesday, April 24. 2007
A resume is not a fiction novel or a paid political advertisement; so never put too many fancy words on it, unless you’re fancying a lifetime of unemployment. Jargons are a no-no as well as overly abused words. Recruitment officers are humans and not personal digital assistants or GPS navigators, so be sure you’re using words or terms that are known to mankind. Please don’t torture employers with words that even online dictionaries can’t understand. Remember that simple resumes are powerful.

Surprisingly, job seekers suffer from a humongous pile of stress even before they land the job they want. Stress usually takes over during the phase of an interview. Seekers panic over preparing for an interview. They panic about wearing a black tie on a white suit or a gold tie on a pink suit. They suddenly have problems on how they'll introduce themselves to the interviewers and how to answer their questions.
Sunday, April 22. 2007
The worst form of the stress commonly occurs during the interview itself. This is the time when you choose to just pack your things and go home even if the interviewer hasn't seen your shadow yet. Stress during interviews causes you to stutter, panic, freeze, and worst, faint in front of the recruitment officer. This isn't exactly what you have planned -- if ever you made a plan. Stress comes from lack of sleep, jitters, and fear of rejection.
Saturday, April 21. 2007
Remember that the interview is your chance to get the best job in the land. Arrive about 10-15 minutes early before the schedule. Use the time to relax, collect your thoughts, and gather your composure. Imagine yourself greeting the interviewer with a smile and answering his questions confidently. If the interviewer drops a difficult question, pause, and please don't panic. Give him the best answer that you can manage, minus the uhms, and the ahs.
