ICICI will open it first call center in the Belfast area offering about 400 jobs in July, while the second call center is planned to be located in north-west of Northern Ireland. The government is extending its arms by funding the project through Invest Northern Ireland.

Last year, a call center from India also started operations in Belfast in 2005. A competitor of ICICI, HCL, was the first to venture in British call centers. For reasons of cheaper price and skilled workforce, foreign companies invest in India. But this time Indian firms are investing in Britain.

Unemployment remains to be a major problem in many developing nations despite the on-going progress both economically and politically. There were no report of injuries on the part of the protesters and the riot police, but some prominent Cambodian rights activists called the incident as a manifestation of the lack of democracy in the country.
